Gatlinburg Trolleys

The Red Route offers a few stops near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for those looking to spend some time in the great outdoors. The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is a visitor favorite. The 5.5-mile-long, one-way, loop road boasts rushing mountain streams, glimpses of old-growth forest, and a few well-preserved log cabins, and historic buildings.

From the Red Route, visitors can also take on the Gatlinburg Trail. At only 1.9 miles one-way from the Sugarlands Visitor Center to the outskirts of the city, this trail is relatively flat and is an easy hike for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

Head to the iconic Ober Gatlinburg, a ski area and amusement park nestled in downtown Gatlinburg, for an unparalleled adventure. After arriving by trolley, hop onto the 2.1-mile aerial tramway for awe-inspiring views of the Smokies.

For a taste of authentic Appalachian moonshine, hop on the Red Route trolley and make your way to Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine on the parkway in downtown Gatlinburg where you'll have the chance to sample an array of moonshine flavors and experience a piece of Appalachian culture.

The Red Route originates at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, where you can venture into the captivating underwater world. From rays and jellyfish to awe-inspiring sharks, Ripley’s Aquarium promises an enchanting encounter with marine life that transcends age barriers.

Gatlinburg Trolley

For those with an appreciation for art and craftsmanship, the Yellow and Blue routes are a must-ride. On the Yellw Route, you’ll embark on the 8-mile Glades/Buckhorn Loop showcasing a treasure trove of artisan shops, exhibits, and galleries, ending at the Gatlinburg Arts & Crafts Community. Other unique finds on this route include the Salt & Pepper Shaker Museum and the Arts and Crafts Village. Whether you seek candles, jewelry, pottery, or other unique finds, the Yellow Route has something special in store for you.

The entire route takes approximately an hour, so just be aware that it may take up to one hour for it to return to each pick-up/drop-off point. Between April and October, the route is available daily from 10:30 am to 6 pm. During the months of November and December, the trolley does not run on Sundays.

The Blue Route departs from the Park N’ Ride parking lot next to City Hall. When the Blue Route diverges, you’ll have the opportunity to stop by Mills Park and play a little disc golf or visit  Rocky Top Sports World.

The Purple Route departs through the entrance to Gatlinburg offers stops along parts of Ski Mountain Road before ending its journey at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center. On this route, you’ll find Ripley’s Davy Crockett Mini-Golf, the Sweet Fanny Adams Theater, and Hard Rock Cafe, amongst other can’t-miss attractions.

Did you know Gatlinburg is home to one of the last natural trout habitats in the region? Stop at Smoky Mountain Angler for a chance to cast your line and catch a fish or two.

The Purple Route is also the perfect connection for those looking to visit Dollywood. Just a few steps from the Welcome Center, visitors can stop by the Dollywood Info Center to plan their perfect trip to this must-visit park.

Trolley app

The City of Gatlinburg’s Mass Transit Department has launched an upgraded real-time information system, which includes the ability to track the location of each Trolley in the system, via a new website, mobile app, and text messages.  Use the Gatlinburg Trolley System to utilize tools to assist navigation when riding on Trolleys. Using the website and mobile app, you can plan trips on the Trolley and view the current locations of all Trolleys in service, determine the estimated time of arrival for Trolleys at their location, and view the location of Trolley stops on each route.

A new feature on the system includes the Trip Planner, which allows riders to determine the best and quickest routes between locations. Riders on the Gatlinburg Trolley System will also notice an additional feature as audible announcements will be made when passengers are nearing the next stop on the route. This upgraded service also includes information for the City of Pigeon Forge’s Mass Transit system, allowing riders of both systems to coordinate their trips to and from each City. The Pigeon Forge Mass Transit system makes a stop at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center.
