HISTORIC ARTS AND CRAFTS COMMUNITY

The Historic Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community, founded in 1937 is the nation's largest organization of independent artisans. Close to a hundred shops, studios, galleries, and inviting little eating establishments line an eight mile loop along Route 321, Buckhorn Road, and Glades Road. Most of the little shops and studios are clustered here and there along a winding road that follows the contours of the hills.

The artists and crafters of the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community are a very talented and diverse group. You'll be amazed at their creative endeavors. You’ll see gorgeous quilts, old-fashioned straw brooms with hand carved handles, exquisitely woven baskets, beautiful jewelry, handdipped scented candles, Victorian ceramic pitchers, pottery, dulcimers, stuffed bears, leather vests, and much more. You’ll marvel at the talent of the many painters who paint such wonderful scenes of the mountains. These original, handmade treasures make great gifts or decorations for your home.

Old-fashioned trolleys are there to take you to the craft loop if you choose. The fare is only $1.00 round trip. We think you'll find it the prettiest and most interesting trolley ride in the Smokies. If you choose to drive you can spend the entire day on the loop exploring all the wonderful shops. Either way you choose you will get to shop in a community of crafters like no other in the United States.
