Gatlinburg, TN (December 19, 2017) – On Sunday, December 31, Gatlinburg will ring in the new year under the cover of the iconic Gatlinburg Space Needle for its 30th Annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and Fireworks Show. Since 1987, this family-friendly celebration is one of the largest organized New Year’s Eve events in the nation, and this year’s end-of-the-year celebration is staged to be one of the most memorable celebrations to date.

With dancing in the streets, a live DJ for entertainment, fabulous rooftop restaurants, and nearly 50,000 people typically in attendance, Gatlinburg transforms into a mini Times Square for the last night of the year. Seconds before the stroke of midnight, a lighted ball will drop from the 400-foot Space Needle in a spectacular display of rhythmic LED lights, while Pryo Shows, Inc. will light the night sky with a dazzling fireworks show.

“New Year’s Eve Celebration is a festive time in Gatlinburg. The outdoor entertainment and ball drop from the Space Needle makes for a grand celebration that attracts thousands of visitors each year,” says Jim Downs, Special Events Director for Gatlinburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. “No doubt, we will have a big crowd in town to help us welcome in the new year.” Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to take advantage of the celebration specials offered by many Gatlinburg restaurants and businesses.
