Gatlinburg Is the Perfect Spot for a Girls' Weekend Away

Day One

Ah! The peace and quiet of your first day away from life's routines could easily make you want to just sit on the deck of the cabin, chalet or condo and savor the peace and quiet. Three days with girlfriends. A girls' weekend away: time to reminisce, replenish, unwind and laugh into the night. You’ll take part in numerous activities including rafting, site seeing, and antique shopping. Tennessee will be on your short list of memorable vacations.

You're in the mountains, so drink in all that the national park has to offer today. A morning hike with guide is the perfect introduction to the beauty that surrounds you. You can choose easy, moderate or strenuous trails which lead to forest, cascading waterfalls and vistas that seem endless. Wildlife is around you, from numerous songbirds to brook trout and a fawn sticking close to mom - you're visiting their home, now. Pick up a box lunch from an area restaurant; it tastes even better on the trail.

Spend the afternoon day one of your girls weekend away on a driving tour of the Smokies in a rental jeep with the top down. You'll come upon photographic old log cabins, churches and a grist mill along the Cades Cove loop, or delve deep into the forest on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.

Evening arrives. First, a great restaurant and conversation, then a time-honored stroll along Gatlinburg's downtown Parkway, featuring mini golf, museums, shops, vaudevillian theater and night spots along the route...laughs galore. Then, back to a relaxing hot tub to unwind before bed...as if we need to remind you, sleep in.

Day Two

Today's a combination day consisting of art & crafts along with a side-splitting whitewater trip - paddle or die! There's no better way to start this morning than diving into a mountain-style breakfast, perhaps pancakes. Today is going to be action-packed, so start it off with a steamy stack topped with fresh fruit and hot maple syrup, or try a country style meal.

Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community is a fine art Mecca, replete with over 100 artists and craftsmen in the country's largest independent gathering. Grab a brochure to pick out the shops you'll want to stop in and visit; many of the artists will be on hand to tell you of their trade, and you'll leave with a new appreciation of the life of an artist.

After lunch, its time to head to the outpost of your whitewater rafting company for the ride of your life! This adventure will be the highight of all your girls getaways. This guided trip down the Pigeon River will have you screaming in exhilaration as you maneuver through Class III-IV rapids. Don't think twice about it, you will get wet! Grab a photo once back at base camp to remind you forever of the wildest thing you've ever done together.

Dinner is going to taste so good tonight, especially after the adrenaline rush of whitewater. Choose from an array of dining options, then head back to the hot tub or finish up the Parkway stroll that you didn't complete last night. Don't forget, you can sleep in again tomorrow morning.

Day Three

Final day already? So much to do, so little time!

Let's see, there's the Aquarium; Ober Gatlinburg's Tram and ice skating; a round of golf; shopping...Shopping, that's it!! You need souvenirs for the family, maybe a memento or two of the weekend for you. Go ahead and get that knocked out so there will be plenty of time to play on your last day.

Unique shops abound at Gatlinburg's numerous malls and specialty shops throughout the city. Go antique shopping, Tennessee style. Grab an All Day Trolley Pass and hop on and off at leisure. You'll just have to get one of those funny old-time saloon photos for a memento! Some of the best shopping in the South can be found at the area's big malls.

This afternoon, just relax. You deserve it after all you've done for the last three days! Drop by a day spa, slip into a tanning salon, do something for YOU! Don't forget...reality hits tomorrow.

Your last night of your girls getaway needs to be a special one, so check out the live entertainment in the area and make it a night to remember. And what a getaway it was!
