"January 1998 we were married in IL. We didn't really have any money for an extravagent honeymoon, and in my determination to find some sort of getaway for us - it would be our first vacation together - I came across a cabin rental website. We booked a cabin and headed out on the road the day after our wedding. We truly enjoyed our little cabin in the mountains...and then got 15 inches of snow overnight on day 3. No electricity (or heat) and wet firewood...we finally made it down and after trying about 3 other cabins (all of which were out of power) we found a cabin to call home the rest of the week. It was gorgeous! We spent time just wandering the relaxed town, visited The Mine, The Comedy Barn, the state park, Ripley's museum, and road the gondola up to the top. We bought a sketch by a local artist that hangs in our basement as a reminder of our time away. It was fabulous! This August, we are taking our two young sons for their first trip - and we cannot wait! We will stay at a hotel vs a cabin this time, but plan on seeing all that is new - and some of what we remember. We don't expect the snow this time, but the snow and the challenges were just a piece of the memory - one that is SO dear to my heart!"
